Alexander Chong of Belleville was killed when he struck the rear of a vehicle stopped at a red light, Edison police said. He ended up under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The crash occurred at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 northbound near Old Post Road North.
Another motorcycle rider also crashed and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in critical condition, police said. He was listed in stable condition on Monday, July 29.
Speed was a factor in the crashes, police said.
"It appears one motorcyclist clipped his comrade and both fell off their motorcycles," police said.
The second motorcyclist was not identified by police.
